Handsets, NOT Pocket Sets
Have you ever wondered why it is called handset and not pocket or bra set? Yet, many people store their mobile phones in their pockets – front/breast pockets, side, and back pockets or bras. This is wrong and has been found to be very unhealthy.
Handset abuse has been associated with various health challenges including brain and breast cancers, male and female infertility, erectile dysfunction, and even cancer of the skin, and various reproductive organs.
Let me elucidate. Handsets receive signals through electromagnetic waves. The more complex the phone, the higher the frequency of electromagnetic waves received and used. The makers of the handset – deliberately or otherwise – made it in such a way that while in the hand it is far from major organs of the body. And when not in use, can be safely kept on the table, chair, floor, or in a bag. This way, there is always a distance between the phone and the human body.
However, studies and observations have shown that majority of people do not keep their mobile phones at a good distance from their bodies, but instead in dress pockets or female bra. They store their phones in front, side and back pockets and or bras. Some who use earphones or Bluetooth devices leave their phones in these pockets while receiving calls. It is on record that the greatest discharge of radiations is emitted during active calls. Phones in pockets emit radiations that can reach vital organs of the body within a reasonable distance from the phone – and these have been shown to result in cellular dysfunctions, metaplasia, and cellular transformation.
In many of the studies on mobile phone radiation effects, it has been observed that people who use a cell phone for over an hour a day for over ten years have a significantly higher rate of brain cancer and many other detrimental effects and ailments in their bodies, such as dizziness, neurosis, insomnia, headaches, an increase in stress, lower bone density, possible changes in brain activity, and even infertility in some men.
The electromagnetic fields emitted by cell phones were thought to be harmless as long as they complied with current Federal Communications Commission (FCC) SAR guideline until peer reviewed and replicated researches proved otherwise that current safety standards used by the FCC are worthless. The network the phone is on makes a difference as users report more discomfort like headaches using 4G/5G technology.
Headaches, nausea, dizziness, short-term memory problems, fatigue, and other complaints resulting from cellular phone use are not due to low-level heating of the brain; instead, they’re apparently caused by the head serving as an “antenna” and brain tissue as a radio receiver. The effects of GSM generated combined radiation is “highly significant and exhibit a clear dose-response relation?” For instance, a study found a higher incidence of brain tumours on the sides of heads used by mobile-phone subscribers to make and receive calls. Thus, a World Health Organization working group has classified cell phone use as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”.
Women who are trying to get pregnant, but are exposed to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from cell towers and cell phones are likely to express increased levels of salivary alpha-amylase causing them to have a 29% reduced probability of getting pregnant. This is because long-term mobile phone radiation exposure induces a significant decrease in antioxidant enzymes in hypothalamus, ovary, and uterus and impairs female reproductive system possibly via inducing both oxidative and nitrosative stress. Oxidative stress may damage the oocytes and may impair their fertilization capacity. It may also lead to embryo fragmentation and formation of numerous developmental abnormalities. Overproduction of reactive oxygen species has a significant impact on the success of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
In males, a 2012 review concluded that radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) decreases sperm count and motility and increases oxidative stress. The body of evidence showing the hazards of cell phones is more than sufficient to cause alarm, yet, people and public health organizations continue to stall. I believe that there is a need for a strict regulations concerning cell phones (and other mobile devices) that create electromagnetic fields.
Also, to reduce your exposure to electromagnetic radiation, cell phone users should buy low-radiation phone; use a headset or speaker; listen more, talk less; hold phone away from the body; choose texting over talking; stay off the phone when signals are poor; limit children’s phone use; and skip the “radiation shield”.
To minimize electromagnetic radiation exposure and its consequences, minimize cell phone usage, limit its use by at-risk population (such as children), use cell phones with low levels of radiation, employ hands-free and earphone technologies such as Bluetooth headsets, etc.
Moving forward, we should stop putting our phones in pockets or bras as these are dangerous to the individuals and increases the risk of radiation-induced damages. Do not also sleep with your phone on your pillow. Learn to keep your phones away from your body as often as you can. Finally, learn to value your health above your phone.
As the effects of electromagnetic radiation include oxidative stress and release of free radicals, the use of highly potent Riboceine is recommended either as Cellgevity or MAXATP. It is time to change the way we fraternize with our phones.
